Urijah Faber shares insights on Anthony Smith not wanting to be in recent UFC fight

Anthony Smith was destroyed by Glover Teixeira and a lot of criticism has come in as to why the fight wasn’t stopped earlier

UFC star Urijah Faber shared his thoughts on the Anthony Smith vs Glover Teixeira fight.

The 41-year-old was speaking to Helen Yee and she asked him regarding the stoppage of that clash. Glover had destroyed Smith in a couple of the rounds, and even though Smith lost some teeth, no one stopped the fight.

Smith’s corner has come under fire recently after the star complained of falling teeth in between rounds, and the referee too has been criticised.

Faber believed Smith didn’t want to be in the fight for long:

“I mean what I saw there was a guy that had an a like a long period of time where he was cowering and getting beat up and not looking like he wanted to be in the fight.

“I don’t think it was because he was unconscious, it was just he was out of steam. He looked like he was out of willpower and then on top of that he’s getting blasted.”

Faber added that he didn’t want to see Smith get his “head bashed in” and thought that the UFC star wanted the match to finish off quickly.

Smith later revealed to Ariel Helwani the extent of the damage, and some of the injuries were serious.

Faber to fight soon?

The UFC Bantamweight star made a surprise weigh-in yesterday ahead of the upcoming UFC event.

Faber was being touted as a possible last-minute replacement for the clash between Song Yadong and Marlon Vera.

Yadong is having some visa issues and Faber could replace the Chinese star. However, Faber just made the cut for a lightweight fight, and there are no lightweight clashes on this card.

A catchweight fight against Vera could be on at short notice. However, Faber seems set to sit on the sidelines unless something crazy happens.
