No sooner did Shevchenko beat Jessica Andrade, than talks of a third fight with Amanda Nunes began.
Valentina Shevchenko lived up to the billing of being one of the greatest women’s fighters in UFC history, as she eased past Jessica Andrade at UFC 261. Shevchenko won the fight via. TKO in the second round.
En route to her victory Shevchenko executed a staggering 7 takedowns, as Andrade had no clue to the Kyrgyzstani’s ground game. The Brazilian did try her best to powerslam her opponent, but Bullet Valentina was just too strong.
With that win, Shevchenko extended her win streak to 7, and has hardly been perturbed by any of her opponents in the UFC, barring one – Amanda Nunes. Shevchenko has just two losses and both of them have been against ‘The Lioness’.
She lost the first one via. unanimous decision at UFC 196. She made a resounding comeback in the next fight at UFC 215, but still wasn’t able to find a way past the two-division champion, as she succumbed to a split decision loss.
Now, in the wake of her victory against Andrade, talks of a third bout between Shevchenko and Nunes began.
She addressed this in the backstage interview with Laura Sanko after the fight. She was quoted as saying:
“I know this fight is gonna happen. It’s gonna happen just naturally when everyone feels like, there is no more — only this fight makes sense for everyone. … When it’s time to happen, it will be something big and huge.”
Valentina Shevchenko and Rose Namajunas share incredible moment after UFC 261 wins
Valentina Shevchenko and Rose Namajunas earned stunning wins at UFC 261, with Bullet Valentina putting on yet another successful title defense and Namajunas clinching the strawweight championship for the second time.
Shevchenko had already revealed prior to the fight that she was leaning towards Namajunas winning the fight, and boy did Thug Rose do it in style! A brutal leg kick to the head shell-shocked Zhang Weili as she tasted defeat for the first time in the UFC.
As for Shevchenko, she didn’t have much trouble as well. After executing a ridiculous 7 takedowns, ground punches from her got the job done against Jessica Andrade.
Soon after their victories, the pair shared a heartwarming moment as they embraced each other backstage. Game recognizes Game!
