Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko has her next mission set for UFC 275 in June vs Taila Santos
Arguably the greatest women’s MMA fighter alongside Amanda Nunes, Valentina Shevchenko has her next assignment set for UFC 275 on June 11. She will face the Brazilian Taila Santos in a bid for the seventh defense of her title.
The current number one ranked UFC pound for pound women’s fighter has been on a rampage in the flyweight division, ever since she made a return to the division in 2018. She contested for the bantamweight championship against Amanda Nunes but fell just short, losing the fight by spilt division.
Her previous outing was against Lauren Murphy at UFC 266, in which she categorically demolished her opponent. She won the fight by TKO in the fourth round.
As for Santos, she’ll get her first shot at UFC gold after winning four straight fights; her overall octagon record is 4-1.
Who is Valentina Shevchenko’s targeted opponent Taila Santos?
Taila Santos is a Brazilian mixed martial artist, who is ranked number 5 in the UFC flyweight division. She is a Muay Thai fighter who is also a blue belt in jiu-jitsu. She was trained in Thai boxing by her father, who has also been her fight mentor.
Santos made her pro MMA debut in November 2013, and she won the fight by unanimous decision. She went on to win her next 14 bouts, of which imposingly 13 came by finishes. She is known for her tall, rangy and fearless fighting style.
She made her UFC debut on 2nd February 2019, against Mara Romero Borella, but lost the fight by split decision. She has since won four of her consecutive fights inside the UFC, with her last victory against Joanne Wood garnering a performance of the night bonus.
