Bobby Green is all set to fight Islam Makachev next Saturday for the main event at UFC Vegas 49
After the news broke that no.3 ranked Beneil Dariush had been forced to withdraw from the headliner bout of UFC Vegas 49, a lot of uncertainty was built upon Islam Makachev’s new opponent. But it looks like it wouldn’t take long for Makachev to find an opponent for the main event. According to reports, Bobby Green has shown willingness to fight Makachev but most probably in catchweight though.
It was ESPN’s Brett Okamoto who brought this news to light with his tweet.
He wrote:
“Per sources, Bobby Green (@BobbyKGreen) vs. Islam Makhachev (@MAKHACHEVMMA) will be contested at 160 pound catchweight. Main event, Feb. 26. Five rounds.”
This will be Green’s first main event and he has a very tough and calculated fighter in Makachev. He is coming off a two-fight winning streak that also included a matchup against Nasrat Haqprast in the recently concluded UFC 271. Green won the fight by unanimous decision.
It was right after this fight that Green demanded a main event fight allotted soon to him as he felt that he deserves it. And hence, Green was ready to take the chance whenever it was given to him and he has used this opportunity very well.
Green is going to face a very tough opponent in Islam Makachev. Islam Makachev is being seen as the Khabib’s Protege in UFC as both have a similar sort of style. Green is so good when it comes to striking and he has a very good reflex to avoid getting the blows from his opponent.
But in Islam Makachev, Green will have to find a way to counter his takedowns and also to not run out of gas if he is taken down. Whether a week of preparation will be enough or not is yet to be seen but Makachev is going to be tough to beat in this fight.
