Tempers flared and punches were thrown when Paddy Pimblett and Ilia Topuria came eye-to-eye over an offensive tweet
It all started when Paddy Pimblett put out an offensive tweet directed towards Georgian citizens which said, “Lad how stupid are these Georgians man … no wonder the Russians terrorize their lives” in April of 2021. He had since deleted the tweet and apologized for his insensitive statement.
Ilia Topuria a German born-Georgian mixed martial artist, competing in the featherweight division of the UFC, did not take kindly to this comment, and in his words ‘it was on sight’ when he came across Pimblett.
Both fighters are part of the UFC London card this weekend, and it was about time they stumbled upon each other. The result was a violent affair, as Topuria rushed straight towards Pimblett in the hotel lobby. He threw a punch aiming straight at Pimblett’s head which the UK native insists he dodged. Bottles were thrown, as the two were immediately separated before the incident escalated.
The UFC might not take any blistering action but will surely ensure the two don’t cross paths till the event is entirely concluded.
Ilia Topuria and Paddy Pimblett engaged in a brawl, days before their expected UFC London fight. Pimblett is set to compete against Mexico’s Rodrigo Vargas in the co-main event of the card, while Topuria is scheduled to compete in his first fight at 155 pounds against Jai Herbert.
“I warned you!” Topuria proudly wrote an Instagram post that accompanied a video of the brawl. “This is what happens when you disrespect me and my country! You saw me and wanted to greet me because you shit your pants… and you should thank my team because of it wasn’t for them separating me, I would have taken your head off. @theufcbaddy”
Pimblett reacted to the post and their brawl on Twitter by saying, “Imagine trying to jump someone on their own with 5 of your boys & you dont land a single shot & get a bottle of hand sanitizer bounced off your head you little (clown) don’t try to act big like you did something when you (sh*t) your pants pretending ur boys was holding u back pussy.”
