Tyron Woodley is set to face Jake Paul on the 28th of August in a professional boxing bout
Tyron Woodley is set to make his professional boxing debut against YouTube star Jake Paul. The fight will take place on the 28th of August.
Paul is coming off a first round knockout win over former UFC fighter Ben Askren, on the 17th of April, 2021. With that win, ‘The Problem Child’ extended his unbeaten record to 3-0.
Woodley, on the other hand, was only recently released by the UFC. The former UFC welterweight champion failed to win in his last 4 UFC outings, with his last win coming way back in 2018.
Elsewhere, former UFC light-heavyweight fighter Vitor Belfort weighed in on Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley. He wasn’t particularly happy with Woodley fighting against a YouTuber.
Belfort also tore into the boxing abilities of Paul’s opponents Woodley and Askren.
Speaking in an interview with Damon Martin of MMA Fighting, Belfort said:
“I can go fight Tyron Woodley with one hand and beat him up. [Ben] Askren? It’s not even a question. My daughter, have you seen my daughter punch? My daughter Victoria can put these guys out. Because they don’t know how to box. My kids have boxed since they were kids.”
It is worth noting that, Vitor Belfort is set to face ‘Real Tarzan’ Mike Holston in a boxing match on the 19th of June.
Tyron Woodley was Ben Askren’s teammate for his fight against Jake Paul in April, this year. Following his win against Askren, Paul and his teammate J’Leon Love met Woodley backstage and disrespected him.
Their attitude caused widespread resentment among the MMA community. Paul then warned Woodley that he would beat him too, and that’s where their rivalry began.
Woodley will be now out to seek revenge for his teammate Askren, as well as for the way he was disrespected that night.
