“Was this the right thing to do?” – Chael Sonnen cannot believe Tony Ferguson made 155 weight cut overnight

Tony Ferguson underwent a crazy weight cut despite UFC 249 being cancelled

Tony Ferguson might be one of the weirdest UFC stars of all time. The Lightweight star has won an interim title and was to face Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 249 for the real crown.

However, that fight was cancelled due to the coronavirus with Justin Gaethje replacing Khabib. That was also cancelled by ESPN and Disney before Dana White confirmed the Gaethje vs Ferguson fight on 9 May.

However, Ferguson was still preparing for UFC 249 and somehow made weight for the fight. Chael Sonnen couldn’t believe what happened and shared his thoughts on the process:

“This is baffling. It is so confusing, was this the right thing to do? Was this the wrong thing to do? I put that in correlation since he has to do that in two weeks.”

Tony’s code

Sonnen also spoke about Ferguson having an internal code, which is why he did what he had to:

“This speaks to an internal code about Tony [Ferguson]. This has nothing to do about money, this has nothing to do with fame or competition or fans or media, this is an internal reflection into Tony Ferguson.”

The former UFC star highlighted that Ferguson had a lot of mental toughness and he was willing to get things done, if he wanted to.

Sonnen also claimed he tried to pick Ferguson’s brains in the past, to get things to pass on to other stars.

The only thing he could come up with was the mental toughness of the Lightweight star.

It is incredible that Ferguson was able to make the weight cut despite no fight for another couple of weeks.

He somehow, lost close to eight pounds in a day to make it to 155, and even shared proof online.

Ferguson certainly knows how to keep his fans interested, and hopefully, he can get into the Octagon and fight on 9 May.
