Beneil Dariush defeated Scott Holtzman thanks to a spinning back fist in the first round

Beneil Dariush vs Scott Holtzman didn’t last long as the Iranian-American won the clash in the first round thanks to a spinning back fist.

The match didn’t start off too well for the 31-year-old as he had missed weight earlier. However, the Lightweight star had more problems against Holtzman in the first round.

Dariush was poked in both eyes, accidentally, but got going later in the round. He threw several punches and kicks at his opponent.

However, the big moment came during the final seconds of the round. Holtzman was already reeling from a few shots to the face and Dariush loaded up with a spinning back fist.

Holtzman immediately fell to the ground and Herb Dean called the fight off. Dariush didn’t even have to go for the kill and Holtzman needed help standing up.

Classy Dariush

While many claimed that this was knockout of the year candidate, Dariush has made it a habit of picking up bonuses.

He has won the Performance of the Night award in each of his last three UFC fights, but the 31-year-old was ineligible for the bonus this time due to missing weight.

However, the 31-year-old showed his class by saying that his opponent should get the performance of the night bonus:

Further, the 31-year-old is now on a five-fight win streak. Dariush has improved his MMA record to 19-4-1 and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.

The 31-year-old has never lifted the gold in the UFC but is a former RITC champion. This knockout was certainly something special and might win a few awards come the end of the year.

Holtzman had a few good hits early on, but the quality of Dariush came through and he had reason to celebrate this win.
