Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson were to meet at UFC 249 but that was cancelled
ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto shared what was the perfect reaction to the cancelled UFC 249 fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
The pair have been scheduled to meet five times, but all of them have been cancelled for one reason or another.
UFC 249 was to take place on 18 April, however, the coronavirus pandemic shelved those plans. Khabib was stuck in Russia while Ferguson was still training for the bout.
Justin Gaethje was named as the replacement for the Lightweight Champion, Khabib, but the event was still cancelled.
Okamoto wanted to highlight that the Khabib vs Ferguson fight was to take place tonight, but there were no celebrations from any one.
He also used a popular GIF from the TV show, Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing the titular character.
There has been a lot of confusion regarding the UFC 249 event and the possibility of the fight take place tonight.
However, Disney and ESPN had cancelled that event and there is no UFC fight on tonight. That would come as a bummer for a lot of UFC fans, but there are some grand plans being made by Dana White.
The UFC president has confirmed that a fight will take place on 9 May. This event will feature three title matches, including Ferguson vs Gaethje.
Amanda Nunes will defend her title too while Henry Cejudo goes up against Dominick Cruz. UFC has lost a lot of fights in recent weeks, and the one tonight could have been one of their biggest events in recent memory.
Khabib vs Ferguson is something we all want to see. However, this clash can only take place once the travel restrictions are relaxed and the coronavirus pandemic is under control.
