Dan Hooker put up an epic showing but was unable to defeat Dustin Poirier
Dan Hooker vs Dustin Poirier was the main event of the latest UFC Fight Night. The Kiwi star spoke about how this fight was 50-50, and it was certainly that in the first four rounds.
Hooker laid into Poirier with some impressive hits in the first two rounds. However, the Diamond showed off his championship abilities by coming back in the third and fourth rounds.
The New Zealand star seemed to be losing his energy in the final round and Poirier took advantage of this.
The Diamond dominated the final round, at least on stats, and won the fight via unanimous decision. There were a ton of hard hits during the clash too and it took a toll on Hooker more than Poirier, it seems.
The Kiwi was seen sitting on the floor and looking out of sorts. Poirier, however, looked extremely fresh and seemed ready for another battle after five rounds too.

An impressive win for Poirier
The Diamond was impressive throughout the last three rounds, and he even had Hooker in some tough positions.
This fight showed how much quality the former interim Lightweight champion still has. He might have been hit hard in the first two rounds, but coming back against Hooker was impressive.
However, Poirier couldn’t confirm when his next fight was. He claimed he could fight later in the year or even next year but wanted to go home to his family first.
Poirier vs Hooker might not have been the fight of the year, but it certainly was a slug-fest. Hooker certainly would have learned from the experience, but it will be interesting to see if Poirier is in the running for a title fight.
He lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov a while back, but he could return after Khabib vs Justin Gaethje takes place for the undisputed title.
This was his first fight since losing to Khabib. However, Poirier was certainly impressive in this outing.
