UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya claimed it will be a close contest as Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson inches closer.
Adesanya will be defending his title at UFC 248 against Yoel Romero and the next UFC show sees the undefeated Khabib take on Ferguson.
Khabib has been a beast and has taken on all challengers during his time in MMA. However, he has never faced Ferguson.
Adesanya was speaking to the press ahead of his fight but was asked about UFC 249:
“That’s a 50-50 fight for me man, that’s a 50-50 fight.
“They both have things that, each other, cancel each other. That’s a good fight.”
Khabib and Ferguson have been slated to face each other four times past but the fight, for several reasons, didn’t happen.
Adesanya was willing to pray to the MMA Gods that this would happen and claimed that maybe the fifth/sixth time is the charm.
“Pray to the MMA Gods that it happens this time. The fifth time’s the charm, sixth time’s the charm, whatever it is. Pray to the MMA Gods.
The Nigerian star also joked that he would do something to appease the Gods too:
“Offer a sacrifice. I’ll offer a sacrifice so that way then may God will be pleased and the fight will go through.”
Khabib has been excellent in the UFC but this will be another tough test for the Russian star.
Ferguson might have three losses to his name, but many predict him to be a tough opponent for the Lightweight champion.
Ferguson isn’t taking things lightly either and has posted several videos of him working out. Khabib is also doing the same, and it will be interesting to see how things take place in a month’s time.
