Jessica Eye missed her weight ahead of her clash against Cynthia Calvillo ahead of UFC Las Vegas 2
Flyweight star Jessica Eye struggled to stand while trying to make weight ahead of UFC Las Vegas 2.
The 33-year-old was headlining the event at the UFC Apex and was to face Cynthia Calvillo.
Eye weight in at 126.25 pounds, just a quarter-pound above the non-title flyweight limit. However, she will now be fined for not adhering the weight limits.
The big story that came out from all this was Eye struggling to even stand at the weigh-ins. UFC stars often have to make severe cuts to fit into the classes, and often it takes a toll on them.
Eye certainly felt the effects of it, and a video highlighted how much she was struggling to even do normal activities.
The fight will still go ahead, but this is one of four catchweight clashes at the even. Three other stars also missed their weigh-ins and all of them have been fined various percentages of their purse.
This is the second straight fight that Eye has missed her weigh-in. The 33-year-old is a contender for the Flyweight title, and she was in a fighting mood already on social media.
Eye posted several updates on social media and claimed she had a couple of weeks to reach weight. However, another fan posted that her rival also had the same time to reach weight, but Eye had a reply for that too:
“Exactly also a 115 coming up who has also miss weight in class on a much higher level . See you just want to be a hater and rude. .25 of pound I am extremely proud.”
However, Joanne Calderwood claimed that Eye was actually overweight by four pounds just 15 minutes before the clash, but Eye denied such rumours.
Calderwood also fights in the flyweight division, and the two rivals traded blows on social media as well.
It will be interesting to see how Eye does on Saturday. She is still the No.1 contender for Valentina Shevchenko’s title and is one of the most experienced stars in the UFC.
