The second meeting between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo was a brutal affair that ended in the first round

The UFC finally was able to crown a new Flyweight champion and it was a worthy winner too. Deiveson Figueiredo absolutely demolished Joseph Benavidez in their rematch and took home the gold.

The 32-year-old Brazilian clashed against Benavidez at UFC in February 2020 but was unable to competefor the title due to missing the weight-cut.

He still defeated Benavidez with an excellent display and brought out all the tools at Fight Island too. The Brazilian dominated Benavidez and knocked him down multiple times. Benavidez had no answer for the attacks from his rival and had to keep his defence up at all times.

However, that didn’t stop Figueiredo from latching on four rear-naked chokes onto his rival. While Benavidez was able to squirm out of three of them, the fourth one was just too much.

Benavidez wasn’t going to give up and didn’t tap out, however, he became unconscious and the referee had to stop the fight.

Emotion gets to Figueiredo

The performance from the Brazilian was incredible and he will make a great Flyweight champion. However, things haven’t been easy for the 32-year-old and he burst into tears after winning the clash.

However, subsequent tests confirmed he was negative for the virus and he was able to make it to Fight Island.

Figueiredo missed his first chance to win the title but wasn’t going to let this chance slip away. While Benavidez was distraught at his below-par performance and couldn’t understand what had happened, the UFC finally has a Flyweight champion and he seems set to dominate the division.
