Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most popular MMA fighters in the world
UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov believes that the media has a huge role to play for MMA fighters.
Khabib is one of the most popular stars in the world, but he claimed that without the media people wouldn’t know about MMA fighters.
The UFC and other promotions have tie-ups with most media outlets and the world of MMA is growing.
However, the media had to do their bit too. Khabib highlighted that the media has to present a story for the fighter, and that would get the fans excited.
The Russian was speaking to Anatomy of a Fighter and pressed on about the media and its relationship with the fighters:
“For promote fighters, people who don’t know their history, this is very important.
“When people know someone, they are going to watch his fight. If you know nothing about him, it’s not interesting.
“Media has to show the fans and people about his life. Where he [was] born, where he grew up, how he trains.
“When you know about the fighter, like history, you are going to follow him.”
MMA has become a full-blown sport in recent years and many top stars have achieved a cult status, pretty much like Khabib.
The media has done their bit for a few fighters and with more new faces coming into the scene, they will be an important part of the MMA circuit.
Khabib has a tough next fight
The Russian is undefeated in his MMA career and has come a long way from his time in Dagestan.
Khabib has defeated all that has come in front of him but his next fight is a tough one. He faces Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 and that should be a blockbuster event.
Ferguson has been on a tear in recent years and it will be interesting to see if the fight takes place. The coronavirus pandemic has affected the UFC calender but this is the next fight on their schedule.
