Omari Akhmedov got the win via an impressive arm-triangle choke at Fight Island 8
Omari Akhmedov and Tom Breese kicked off the main card at UFC Fight Island 8. There were some great fights on the prelim card, but this fight had some incredible moments too.
Akhmedov started off with some crazy hits and it was a surprise how Breese was able to survive all this.
However, Breese also came up with his own offence in the second half of the first round. He caught Akhmedov in a few choke attempts and it seemed Breese would get the submission.
However, Akhmedov had his own game plan in the second round and Breese also left the referee in a bit of a situation.
Out or not out?
It was Breese who was the more aggressive star in the second round. However, he tried to get a heel hook in and that opened the door for Akhmedov.
The Russian latched in a tight arm-triangle choke and the commentators were sure he was out. However, the referee kept checking up on Breese and it seemed the British star was floating in and out of consciousness.
The referee actually did a great job in all this and kept checking on Breese. While it seemed that Breese was out as his arm wasn’t responding, he did come back to his senses and tapped out quickly soon after.
The commentators added that the referee was doing a great job and he gave Breese every chance of staying in the fight.
However, it was not to be for the British star and he had to tap out. This was the 21st MMA win of Akhmedov’s career and he also bounced back after a loss to Chris Weidman.
The 33-year-old has been impressive in the UFC and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.
