UFC star Tyron Woodley got a huge gash above his eye in the latest Fight Night

Former UFC Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley was defeated easily by Gilbert Burns on the latest Fight Night.

It was a difficult match to predict before the clash, but Burns was excellent in the bout. The Brazilian absolutely dominated the former champion and landed several blows too.

Burns also dropped Woodley a few times, and one of his punches opened up a nasty looking cut. Woodley got a huge gash above his left eye and it looked extremely worrying. The doctors did have a look at the gash, but Woodley was able to continue after that.

However, he was unable to get the win after a dominant performance from Burns. The former champ now holds a record of 19-5-1 while Burns improved to 19-3.

Next in line for the title?

Burns didn’t waste time after the fight as he called out the Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman. The pair are actually training partners and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Usman, for his part, wish his teammate well and had this to say on Twitter:

“What a great performance by my man @GilbertDurinho #UFCVegas”

However, Burns might not get the shot that easily. Ariel Helwani pointed out two big names who could fight for the title.

Jorge Masvidal has teased that he wants to fight Usman regularly while the other name is Leon Edwards, who was on an eight-fight win streak.

Edwards was to face Woodley before Covid-19 but he is stuck in the UK and it will be interesting to see what happens next in the Welterweight division.

Usman does have a lot of challengers for his title, and he could be in action sooner rather than later.
