Merab Dvalishvili became a little too enthusiastic after getting his win at UFC Las Vegas 2
UFC bantamweight star Merab Dvalishvili was scolded by the officials as he celebrated a win at Las Vegas 2.
The 29-year-old Georgian faced off against Gustavo Lopez on the prelim card. The clash was a catchweight one as Dvalishvili was to initially face Ray Borg, but on the eve of the fight, his rival pulled out at Lopez came in.
Dvalishvili won the clash in the end via a unanimous decision as the fight went to the third and final round.
The 29-year-old certainly enjoyed the win and climbed on top of the cage. However, he was admonished by some of the UFC officials who wanted him not to celebrate in the manner.
One official also tried to pull him down but Dvalishvili was in too great a mood not to celebrate the win.
The Nevada Sports commission had banned celebrations on top of the cage after Justin Gaethje’s trademark flips from the top were deemed too dangerous.
However, many stars continue climbing the cage for celebrations, something that Gaethje did after his win over Tony Ferguson recently.
Dvalishvili moved to 11-4 in his MMA career and is now on a four-fight win streak in the UFC.
The Georgian lost his first two fights in the UFC, however, he has turned that around now. This was one of the prelim fights in the evening and the only one on this card to go the full distance.
The other three fights in the prelim card finished within the first minute of the first round. Julia Avila, Tyson Nam and Christian Aguilera all had spectacular wins to celebrate.
Cynthia Calvillo also pulled off a bit of a shock by defeating Jessica Eye in the main event. The other big win was from Martin Vettori who defeated Karl Roberson in the first round.
