Gilbert Burns has set his sights on a fight with the surging Neil Magny
Daniel Rodriguez and octagon veteran Neil Magny squared off in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 64. Neil Magny last fought undefeated, minacious fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC Vegas 57. Although he was in a comfortable spot in the pound-for-pound rankings, he accepted a much more difficult challenge against a fighter ranked below him. Magny came back to winning ways at UFC Vegas 64 with a submission victory over Rodriguez. The victory caught the attention of Brazilian contender Gilbert Burns.
The co-main event between Neil Magny and Daniel Rodriguez from the beginning was extremely competitive, with neither man eager to give the other an inch. Magny had the upper hand in the first because of his jab, movement, and wide array of skills, but Rodriguez fought back by closing the gap and intimidating Magny on the feet in the second. Rodriguez appeared to sting Magny in the third, but he immediately recovered and went on the attack, switching to his wrestling.
He converted a front headlock position into a D’arce choke late in the round, forcing Rodriguez to submit. With the victory, Magny returned to winning ways and increased his Octagon record to 20-8, solidifying his position and leaving his mark on the sport.
With the third-round submission victory against Daniel Rodriguez on Saturday, Neil Magny now holds the record for the most victories in the UFC welterweight division’s history.
Gilbert Burns sets his target on Neil Magny
UFC welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns faced a similar situation like Magny did when he fought Shavkat Rakhmonov. The Brazilian fought another undefeated prospect Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273. Although he lost the fight, his stocks never went down, owing to a fight-of-the-year-worthy display that enthralled fans.
Reacting to Magny’s win, Burns wrote: “Congrats @NeilMagny last time I heard @ufc
said I have an opponent for 🇧🇷 if he doesn’t show up, we can dance I’m in 💯% to make this Fight happen! For now great finish and congrats on your record! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾”
Gilbert Burns has verbally agreed to a fight against Jorge Masvidal. However, no concrete news regarding the announcement of the fight has been released yet.
