Jorge Masvidal grabbed headlines recently for becoming the third-highest paid fighter in the UFC – here’s all you need to know about his agent, Malki Kawa who managed to strike the deal.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Jorge Masvidal put pen to paper on a new UFC contract which ranks him among the highest earners in the company. While the specific details and terms of the contract have not been released, Masvidal’s agent certainly deserves his due credit.
According to Masvidal’s manager Malki Kawa, ‘Gamebred’ will now be on a ‘champion’s contract’. He also stated that Masvidal will remain with the UFC until the end of his fighting career.
The 37-year-old Masvidal provided the UFC with one of the best knockouts ever when he KO’d Ben Askren back in 2019. His five-second fight, which ended with a flying kick is the record for the shortest fight in the industry. But thanks to Masvidal’s agent Kawa, the Brazilian’s kids will “be good for a long time” by his own admission.
Malki Kawa is an American sports agent and manager. He represents a number of high-profile athletes who compete in MMA and even American football. Apart from Masvidal, Kawa has also represented the likes of Jon Jones, Anthony Pettis, BJ Penn, Paige VanZant, Tyron Woodley as well as Kendrick Norton. So, it’s safe to say that Kawa knows his way around negotiating the big bucks for his clients.
Kawa was previously a real estate agent but later founder ‘First Round Management’ with his brother Abraham. He now continues to scout for the best talents in the sporting world and isn’t afraid of getting involved in high-stake deals.
Kawa revealed that Masvidal’s bumper new contract was put forward after five months of negotiations with UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell. Kawa’s client is now set to face Colby Covington at UFC 272 on Saturday.
