Conor Mcgregor believes that he has slowly transmuted into his team Straight Blast Gym’s (SBG Gym) Gorilla
Conor McGregor delivered one of the most iconic line at the UFC Dublin post fight interview against Diego Brandao- ‘We are not here to take part, we’re here to take over’. Mcgregor went above and beyond everyone’s expectation, and emerged as the biggest superstar, not just in the UFC, but sports entertainment. Little did anyone know, that a regular boy born in Dublin, Ireland, would carry the nation on his shoulders through tough grind, confidence, grit, and determination.
Although the ”Notorious One’ hasn’t won a single fight, his stocks continue to soar high. There is nothing quite similar to a Conor Mcgregor fight week- a sporting spectacle indeed. Mcgregor has been recovering from a gruesome injury he ran into at UFC 264 in his third fight against Dustin Poirier.
Prior to the UFC, Mcgregor fought in the Cage Warriors promotion, where he was a double champion. He won his first belt at featherweight back in June 2012, and its been a decade to that day. In the UFC, he won the interim featherweight title against Chad Mendes, after then champion Jose Aldo pulled out of the scheduled bout. In one of the most spectacular comebacks and events, Mcgergor made an epic turnaround to win his first UFC gold, seven years ago.
Mcgregos trains at the Straight Blast Gym in Ireland, since the inception of his MMA career. It’s been a longtime criticism from MMA experts that the reason behing Conor’s downfall is due to the lack of a truthful team, that is brutally honest with the MMA superstar. Mcgregor has turned deaf ears to those critics, and stayed loyal to his gym.
SBG’s logo is that of a Gorilla, and Mcgregor posted a tweet recently, reminiscing about his journey, and how he has morphed into the SBG gorilla. He wrote, ‘I have just realized that 7 years after our first ufc world title together, and 10 years after our first mma world title, I have morphed into the sbg gorilla. @sbgireland 🦍’
‘You are a nobody’ – Conor McGregor tears into Jake Paul, after the latter claimed that a fight between them is destined to happen
Jake Paul has been on a relentless tirade against UFC president Dana White and MMA superstar Conor McGregor, and had laid out a fight proposal with high stakes in the past. Paul had even expressed his interest to fight the biggest name in the game, McGregor on multiple occasions.
The Youtuber turned boxer has been vocal about the UFC underpaying their fighters, and the lack of long-term medical health care for them. ‘The Problem Child’ despised McGregor for being selfish, urging him to play his part and stand up for his fellow fighters.
In a recent interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Paul said that a fight between him and Conor Mcgregor is inevitable, provided the Irish Man returns and wins some fights. He reinstated that it’s important for him to keep winning these fights, and in the end a blockbuster show with two of the biggest names in the game is a massive PPV event.
He said, “I think for me, fighting a couple more times, continuing to knock some people out, and he has to get active again, who knows when that’s gonna happen? I think those two things need to happen, and then at some point, it’s gotta happen,” Paul said. “You know, why not? He’s a businessman, I’m a businessman, and that’s $75 to $100 million for both of us.”
McGregor has been sidelined since UFC 264, owing to a horrific injury in his third fight against Dustin Poirier. McGregor, has been teasing a potential comeback by posting short snippets of his boxing mitt work, and weight lifting. Most recently he posted a series of pictures from his return to the Straight Blast Gym, training MMA.
Reacting to Jake Paul’s interview, McGregor clapped back on Twitter with a witty comeback. He shrugged off Paul’s attempts to lure him into a fight. The ‘Notorious’ one mocked Paul’s performance at the PPV box-office, and called him a ‘nobody’.
He wrote, ‘ you’ve 2 fights and done 70k buys.’
He added, ‘You are a flop, kid. A nobody.’
