UFC have decided to cut Chilean star Jennifer Gonzalez ahead of her upcoming promotional debut

The UFC has taken a weird decision ahead of the UFC Fight Night event on February 26. The UFC Vegas 49 event was to feature the promotional debut of Chilean fighter Jennifer Gonzalez.

However, Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting confirmed the release of the Chilean star. She was to fight Josiane Nunes at UFC Vegas 49 but that will not take place.

The report from MMA Fighting adds that the reason for the release of the Chilean star is unknown. However, the UFC is still working hard to find a replacement for Nunes for next weekend’s event.

It will be interesting to see if the UFC can find a replacement on such short notice. It is still a little strange to see a fighter get cut even before making her debut for the promotion.

A missed opportunity for Jennifer Gonzalez

While details are yet to be shared why the Chilean was cut by the UFC, this is a bit of a missed opportunity for the 35-year-old.

She currently holds a record of 13 wins and 5 losses in her professional MMA career. The Chilean, who is also called Jefa, is also on a bit of a win streak.

She has won her last seven fights and her last loss came in 2017. The 35-year-old has fought all across the globe in tournaments like SFL, UWC and Combate.

She has also won all of her fights via a stoppage. The 35-year-old has 10 submission wins in her career while she has 3 wins via TKO or KO.

Hopefully, more details are shared as to why the cut was made. The UFC is possibly the biggest promotion in the world and chances to break into it are rare.
