Marcus McGhee stepped in on just 3 days’ notice at UFC Vegas 72 to face Journey Newson and ended up being victorious – where does he train?
Not very often do we see a fighter turn up within a week’s notice. 32-year-old Marcus McGhee might be an exception – ‘The Maniac,’ on just 3 days’ notice, accepted to fight Journey Newson at UFC Vegas 72. To top it all, he hadn’t even made his UFC debut.
With a record of 6 wins and 1 loss, it would have been just another week for McGhee had UFC vet Brian Kelleher not pulled out of the fight. It is worth noting that Kelleher had suffered an injury, and despite willing to fight, was advised by the UFC not to.
Having previously fought in RUF MMA and LFA, McGhee had a daunting task ahead of him at UFC Vegas 72.
Taking on Newson, McGhee needed just a round and a half to earn a stunning victory on debut. With a rear-naked choke, McGhee ended up with his first win.
Where does Marcus McGhee train?
Marcus McGhee is a product of MMA Lab. The mixed martial arts school/gym located in Glendale, Arizona has been home to a number of fighters, notably Sean O’Malley and Jared Cannonier.
It looks like McGhee will only go upwards from here, given his brilliant start to his UFC career. He will be looking forward to adding laurels to his gym.
