Umar Nurmagomedov Early life

On March 1, 1996, Umar Nurmagomedov was born in Kizilyurt, Dagestan, Russia.

With his brother Usman Nurmagomedov at his side, he started going to freestyle wrestling practice when he was a little child. Later, Umar and his brother both started practising Thai boxing. After relocating to Makhachkala, Umar started working out at the Eagles MMA camp with his uncle, Honored Coach of Russia Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. He is of Avar ancestry.

On December 16, 2016, he faced off against Rishat Kharisov as part of the Fight Nights Global 57 in Moscow. By guillotine choke in the second round, Umar prevailed. In his second fight, Umar defeated Ulukbek Amanbaev in the first round by rear-naked choke at Fight Star: Battle on Sura 6 on January 5, 2017. Returning to Fight Nights Global for his subsequent four fights, Umar won all four of them: Alym Isabaev at Fight Nights Global 62 via second-round TKO; Valisher Rakhmonov at Fight Nights Global 71 via second-round rear-naked choke; Nauruz Dzamikhov at Fight Nights Global 76 via unanimous decision; and Shyudi Yamauchi at Fight Nights Global 83 via unanimous decision. Moving on to Samara MMA Federation (now known as Eagle FC), on May 11, 2018, Umar defeated Fatkhidin Sobirov to claim the FMMAS Bantamweight Championship at Samara’s Battle on Volga 4. Both the title and the fight were decided by unanimous decision.

In a match against future UFC fighter Saidyokub Kakhramonov on August 30, 2018, Nurmagomedov prevailed by a majority decision.

Returning to the Samara MMA Federation, Umar successfully defended his championship against Wagner Lima of Brazil on April 14 at Battle on the Volga 10.
