The experienced Aussie, Ajla Tomljanovic, squares off against England’s Harriet Dart in a group match at the United Cup.
The 29-year-old had one of her best seasons on the tour in 2022. She managed to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the second time in her career. She also made it to the last-8 stage at the US Open for the first time. Tomljanovic climbed to a career-high ranking of world No. 33 on 31 October 2022.
The Croatia-born athlete won 38 singles matches this year on the tour and lost 27 with a win percentage of 58.46. She will hope to finally win her first Tour-level singles title in 2023. A good performance at the United Cup will hold her in good stead in the tournaments to come.
The 26-year-old made her debut in the main draw of the French Open this year. At the US Open, she managed to pick up her first top-10 win as she defeated Daria Kasatkina in the first round. Dart’s run in Flushing Meadows ended in the following round as she was ousted by Dalma Galfi in straight sets.
During the course of the year, Dart broke into the top 100 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career. She reached a career-high ranking of world No. 84 on 25 July 2022. She won 29 singles matches in the year and lost 29 as well.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-1 in favor of Ajla Tomljanovic. She defeated Harriet Dart in the qualifiers of the Canadian Open earlier this year in straight sets.
