German star Alexander Zverev locks horns with Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in a group-stage clash at the 2023 United Cup.
Alexander Zverev
The 25-year-old returned to the court for the exhibition tournaments – Diriyah Tennis Cup and the World Tennis League. He impressed everyone with his skills once again as ring rust wasn’t evident. Zverev’s biggest win in the two tournaments came against 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. The youngster defeated the veteran in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The former world No. 2 will hope to get off to a good start as the new season gets underway. With a player of his caliber, it’s shocking to see that there isn’t any Grand Slam title in his trophy collection as yet. Maybe 2023 will be the year for Zverev.
Jiri Lehecka
The 21-year-old had a rough start to his United Cup campaign. He came up against an in-form Taylor Fritz in his first match in the 18-team tournament. The American star made light work of Lehecka and cruised to a win in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Lehecka’s campaign doesn’t get any easier as Zverev will also be a very tough opponent. However, the pressure of expectations isn’t too much on Lehecka and he can afford to play freely. The current No. 1 Czech tennis player in singles will hope to give Zverev a good run for his money.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never crossed paths as yet.
Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in straight sets.
