Jessica Pegula

The 28-year-old enjoyed a fruitful season in 2022. She claimed her first WTA 1000 title at the Guadalajara Open by getting the better of fourth-seed Maria Sakkari in the final. This was the second title she won in her career and the biggest to date. Gauff and Pegula formed a formidable partnership in the season and won three titles.

By virtue of her fantastic performances in both singles and doubles, Pegula played in the WTA Finals in both events. However, she could not win a single match in both events, finishing last in the round-robin stage of doubles.

Laura Siegemund

The experienced campaigner will have an arduous task challenging the enigmatic Pegula. However, Siegemund will take confidence from the fact that she has defeated the American tennis pro in the past.

The two-time Grand Slam champion won her first WTA 1000 doubles title in 2022. She partnered with Vera Zvonareva to defeat the team of Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens in straight sets in the finals of the Miami Open.
