Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti squares off against Norway’s Ulrikke Eikeri in the group stage of the 2023 United Cup.
The 24-year-old made rapid strides in 2022. She climbed from No. 157 in the WTA rankings to a career-high No. 54. Bronzetti won 36 matches in 2022 and lost 26. She also debuted in all four Grand Slam events in 2022. She notched up her first win at a Grand Slam in the 2022 Australian Open against Varvara Gracheva in the first round.
The Rimini-born player managed to get the better of Brazil’s Laura Pigossi in the first match at the United Cup. Bronzetti emerged victorious against the 28-year-old in convincing fashion. In the first set, Bronzetti bageled Pigossi and gave her no hopes of mustering a comeback when the second set commenced. The match eventually ended 6-0, 6-2 in favor of the Italian tennis pro.
The 30-year-old brings a lot of experience to the Norwegian setup. She turned pro in 2007 and has truckloads of experience under her belt.
She achieved a major result in 2022 as she reached the finals of the mixed doubles event at the French Open, alongside partner Joran Vliegen. They eventually finished runner-up after going down to Ena Shibahara and Wesley Koolhof. Eikeri became Norway’s first Grand Slam finalist in the Open Era.
Lucia Bronzetti and Ulrikke Eikeri will be facing each other for the first time. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Lucia Bronzetti to win in three sets.
