The 26-year-old Michail Pervolarakis squares off against Belgium’s Zizou Bergs in the group stage of the 2023 United Cup.
The Cypriot-born Green tennis player made his ATP debut in 2022 as he played the Winston-Salem Open as a lucky loser. In the round of 64, Pervolarakis lost to Kyle Edmund in straight sets 6-2, 7-5. Pervolarakis reached a career-high ranking of 366 on January 10, 2022.
He is currently ranked 506 in the ATP rankings and will hope to get back inside the top 500 in the new season. In doubles, he has a better ranking as he is currently placed at 175.
The current world No. 2 Belgian singles player is a vital cog in the Belgian unit. Bergs managed to play in the main draw of a major for the first time in his career in 2022 at the Wimbledon Championships. Bergs also broke into the top 150 in the ATP singles rankings. He reached a career-high ranking of world No. 146 on 20 June 2022.
Bergs won a Challenger event in 2022 and it came in the UK. He defeated Jack Sock in the final in three sets to win what was his fourth title at the Challenger level. The 23-year-old will have to give good support to the likes of David Goffin and co. if Belgium has to make the knockouts.
Zizou Bergs and Michail Pervolarakis have faced each other on only one occasion. The former won that encounter and therefore, leads the head-to-head 1-0.
Prediction: Zizou Bergs to win in straight sets.
