Savannah Guthrie is an American journalist and attorney, best known for her role as co-anchor of NBC’s morning news program, Today. Born on December 27, 1971, in Melbourne, Australia, Guthrie grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in journalism. After several years as a broadcast journalist, Guthrie earned her law degree from Georgetown University and practiced law for a few years before returning to journalism. She has since become a prominent figure in the industry, known for her reporting on high-profile events and her thoughtful, engaging interview. Since 2012 she had had won multiple awards for her journalism work. She is highly respected in the media industry and is known for her extensive coverage of political events and breaking news stories.
During the live broadcast, co-host Sheinelle Jones informed viewers that Savannah Guthrie had an eventful morning. Guthrie had to leave early due to feeling unwell and subsequently took a COVID test, which came back positive. Guthrie did not appear on the remainder of Tuesday’s show after 7:30 a.m. ET. Despite being vaccinated and receiving a booster shot, this was not the first time Guthrie had tested positive for COVID-19.
Carson Daly, co-host of the show, asked the anchor and weatherman where he was heading. Al Roker made a jest that he was fortunate Sheinelle was seated between him and Savannah. According to the “Today” show, Guthrie had tested positive previously in May 2021 and in January 2022. The hosts expressed their well-wishes for Guthrie’s swift recovery.
The TODAY co-anchor did not continue on the show on Feb. 28 after testing positive. Savannah Guthrie contacted TODAY from her residence, stating that she was only experiencing a minor cold. She utilized the chance to rest, catch up on reading, view television, and complete some cleaning and organizing tasks.
