Find out how much does the runner up get at the US Open 2021
The US Open is one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. Dating back to 1881, It is also one of the oldest. Being one of the Grand Slams as well the prize money involved is also massive. This year’s runner up and winner prize have been decreased from that of last year, whereas the total prize pool has been increased from $53.5 million to $57.5 million.
With a total prize pool of $57.5 million this year we take a look at how much does the runner up and the winner get at the event. First we will look at the runner ups.
Runner up Prize Money
Singles runner up
Runner ups for both men’s and women’s singles events will get a total of $1.25 million. This amount has been decreased by 16.67% from that of last year.
This means that Leylah Annie Fernandez who finished second best to Emma Raducanu at the US Open Women’s final will get a sum total of $1.25 million. Also, one of Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev will be taking home this prize money.
Doubles runner up
Runner ups for all three double format that is Men’s, Women’s and Mixed doubles will get a total of $330,000. This prize money is to be distributed between both the players involved.
Winners Prize Money
Singles winner
Winners for both Men’s and Women’s single events will get a total of $2.5 million. This is exactly double of what the runner ups get. Like the runner up’s total prize this has also been reduced by 16.67% from that of last year.
This means that Emma Raducanu who sensationally won her first Grand Slam will receive $2.5 million. Also, one of Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev will be taking home this prize money.
Doubles winner
Winners for all three formats of the double’s game that is Men’s, Women’s and Mixed doubles win a total of $660,000. This prize money is supposed to be divided amongst both the players involved.
US Open 2021 Finals
The Men’s single final will take place between Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev. It will be the rematch of the 2021 Australian Open Final where Djokovic got the better of Medvedev.
The Women’s single final has been won by Emma Raducanu who defeated Lylah Fernandez earlier to win her first Grand Slam at 18 years of age.
The Men’s doubles final was won by Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram who beat Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares. The Mixed doubles has also been won the duo of Desirae Krawczyk and Joe Salisbury who beat Giuliana Olmos and Marcelo Arevalo.
The Women’s doubles final is yet to take place. This will be a clash between the duo of Caty McNally and Coco Gauf against Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai
