The 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray will take on Italian tennis pro – Matteo Berrettini in what promises to be an intriguing match in the third round of the US Open.
The 35-year-old began his US Open 2022 campaign with a convincing win against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo. He followed it up with another win against Emilio Nava after dropping the first set.
The legendary Andy Murray has won 22 matches and lost 14 this year. He has climbed the rankings from World No. 134 at the beginning of the year to No. 49 at present. Now, he finds himself in the last 32 at Flushing Meadows for the first time in six years.
The 26-year-old has put in some memorable performances this year. He reached the Australian Open semifinal before losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. The 2019 US Open semifinalist won the Stuttgart Open after defeating Andy Murray in the final. He also won the Queen’s Club Championships by outplaying Filip Krajinovic in the final.
At this year’s US Open, Berrettini faced two qualifiers in the first couple of rounds. He started off with a win against Nicolas Jarry in straight sets. In the next match, he faced Frenchman Hugo Grenier. Berrettini lost the first set but came back strongly to finish the match in four sets.
Matteo Berrettini and Andy Murray have faced each other on three occasions. The youngster leads the head-to-head 2-1.
Prediction: Andy Murray to win in five sets.
