The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has played impeccable tennis on his way to reaching the US Open semifinal. He will have to face a confident Frances Tiafoe on Friday for a place in the final.
Carlos Alcaraz
The 19-year-old has dominated some matches and dug deep to come up trumps in a few others. He has reached his first Grand Slam semifinal and it’s going to be tough to stop him.
Alcaraz started his campaign at Flushing Meadows against Sebastian Baez. The Argentine was forced to retire during the third set owing to an injury. In the second round, the youngster defeated Federico Coria in straight sets. The talented youngster registered another comfortable win against Jenson Brooksby in the third round. Alcaraz was pushed to the limit by 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic in the fourth round. The World No. 4 eventually won the match in five sets to set up a quarterfinal clash with Jannik Sinner. The Italian tennis pro would have been confident after defeating Alcaraz in a couple of important matches this year. However, Alcaraz managed to get the better of the 21-year-old in a five-set thriller which became the second-longest match in US Open history.
Frances Tiafoe
The 24-year-old will also be entering his first Grand Slam semifinal. He has dismantled his opposition with his power game so far.
In the first three matches, Tiafoe won in straight sets against Marcos Giron, Jason Kubler, and Diego Schwartzman. Tiafoe faced the legendary Rafael Nadal in the fourth round and shocked the world with a win in four sets. In the quarterfinals, the American tennis pro outplayed Andrey Rublev to pick up the win in straight sets.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
Frances Tiafoe leads the head-to-head 1-0. He defeated Alcaraz in the first round of the 2021 Barcelona Open last year.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in five sets.
