The defending champion Daniil Medvedev will start his US Open 2022 campaign as he locks horns with Stefan Kozlov.

The Russian tennis pro has played well this year. He led the Russian team to the semifinals of the ATP Cup. He came within touching distance at the Australian Open as he lost in the final against Rafael Nadal. After reaching the quarterfinals in Miami, Medvedev suffered an injury that sidelined him for a few weeks.
Since he returned to action at the Geneva Open, Medvedev reached the finals at Libema Open and Halle Open. At Los Cabos, he won his first title in 2022. At the recently concluded Cincinnati Masters, Medvedev reached the semifinals before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Stefan Kozlov
Stefan Kozlov will have his task cut out when he takes on the top-ranked Medvedev. He made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open and reached the second round. He lost in the qualifying stages of Wimbledon but made it to the main draw by becoming the lucky loser. Kozlov also reached the quarterfinal at the Delray Beach Open.
The 24-year-old failed to qualify for the main draws in Atlanta and Cincinnati. He bowed out in the first round of the Citi Open. The youngster will make his US Open main draw debut this time.
