The Tunisian No. 1 Ons Jabeur will begin her US Open 2022 campaign against the veteran, Madison Brengle, in the first round.

The 32-year-old has been struggling with inconsistent form this season. She has reached the quarterfinals in a few tournaments but there’s nothing to write home about.
She will have to take confidence from her quarter-final run at the Tennis in the Land tournament where she upset Ekaterina Alexandrova. Last year, Brengle lost in the first round of the US Open in straight sets against compatriot Shelby Rogers. World No. 63, Brengle reached the third round of the US Open in 2015 and 2020.
Ons Jabeur
The World No. 5 is one of the favorites to win the tournament. Ons Jabeur played some mesmerizing tennis at Wimbledon and reached the final before suffering an upset loss against Elena Rybakina. Jabeur has already won two titles this year. The first one came at the Madrid Open while the second one came at the Berlin Open.
Since her dominant performance at the grass-court major, Jabeur has played in three tournaments. She was ousted in the quarterfinals of the Silicon Valley Classic. At the Canadian Open, the 27-year-old had to retire during her first-round match against Qinwen Zheng. At the recently concluded Cincinnati Masters, Jabeur lost in the round of 16 against Petra Kvitova.

Ons Jabeur and Madison Brengle met each other at Hobart International in 2020. The former got the win in straight sets and currently leads the head-to-head 1-0.
