In a huge upset, The Guard defeated 100 Thieves in the second week of Valorant Champions Tour NA Season 1. Find out more!
100 Thieves was once a strong team and even represented North America during the Masters 3 event in Berlin. They lost to another North American team Envy, now known as Optic Gaming, and placed third at that event. But a lot has changed since that matchup and it looks like things are going downhill for this Valorant Team.
While the other eight competitors in the Challengers 1 event had to go through two rounds of qualifiers, 100 Thieves were directly invited. The team received an invite for the VCT NA S1 Challengers event due to their points from the Master 3 event. It was one of the four teams that received this invite, others being Sentinels, Optic Gaming and Cloud9.
100 Thieves vs The Guard – Map 1 Haven
The first map, Haven, was picked by The Guard. Guard was on the attacker side while 100 Thieves were on the defender side. Guard won the pistol round and the bonus round while the first gun round was won by 100 Thieves. Haven is said to be an attacker-sided map and that was very noticeable. After the first half, the scoreline was 10-2 in favor of The Guard.
100 Thieves managed to fight their way through and resulting in overtime. But The Guard won two consecutive rounds during overtime and won their map pick. The final score was 14-12 in favor of The Guard.
100 Thieves vs The Guard – Map 2 Split
During the second map, Split, picked by 100 Thieves, The Guard once again won the pistol round and continued their streak. 100 Thieves was finally able to break it after four rounds. In a similar fashion, 100 Thieves won four rounds and evened out the score. After that, they traded a few rounds which resulted in a 6-6 half.
100 Thieves won the pistol round of the second half. The Guard was not able to mount a good offense and was unable to break through. 100 Thieves won their own map pick without losing any rounds on the defense side. The final score was 13-6.
100 Thieves vs The Guard – Map 3
Unlike the first two maps, where a certain side has an advantage, Ascent is a fairly balanced map. But this map turned out to be the downfall of 100 Thieves. The Guard started on the defender side and won the first pistol round. They subsequently went on a hot streak and 100 Thieves were unable to break through their defense even once! It resulted in a completely one-sided with the score being 12-0 at halftime. 100 Thieves needed to win every round to even have a chance to win. But The Guard won the map and completely destroyed 100 Thieves in a 13-0 final score.
In a curious turn of events, 100 Thieves player Peter ‘Asuna’ Mazuryk, who usually plays a duelist, picked Chamber the newest Sentinel Agent in Valorant. This pick has been criticized by many 100 Thieves fans since it didn’t allow this young player to use his cracked aim and take difficult fights. The reason for this change could be Chamber’s ultimate which allows him to get a free Sniper Rifle. But this left them with no duelist to enter the site.

100 Thieves went trough a recent roster change when the dropped their IGL Josh ‘steel’ Nissan and Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella decided to quit Valorant and join the competitive CSGO scene once again. 100 Thieves incorporated Hunter “BabyJ” Schline and Adam “ec1s” Eccles in their team. BabyJ took over the role of the primary Sentinel while ec1s is the team’s current IGL.
While the community is upset about this loss, we should also acknowledge the incredible performance by The Guard. Especially Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo, the Jett main on their team. It will be exciting to see the future of this team.
