Valtteri Bottas F1 career
In 2013, Bottas signed with Williams-Renault as a teammate to Pastor Maldonado. He finished 17th overall in the drivers’ championship and ahead of his teammate, Maldonado. In 2014, he improved drastically and finished 4th in the drivers’ championship.
Bottas achieved two podium finishes across the 2015 season. The first came at the Canadian Grand Prix when the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen experienced an engine issue leading to a spin. The second podium of came in Mexico where he finished third.
The 2016 season was less eventful for Bottas. He claimed third place at the Canadian Grand Prix, matching his result of the previous year. This was Williams’s only podium finish of the season. He finished 8th overall in the Drivers’ Championship.
In 2017, Mercedes announced that they have signed Bottas to partner up with Lewis Hamilton. This came after Nico Rosberg announced his shocking retirement. Bottas finished 3rd overall in the drivers’ championship of 2017.
He extended his contract with Mercedes into 2021 and recently raced in the Austrian Grand Prix 2021. He achieved a podium and finished second behind Max Verstappen.
It was later announced in September 2021 that Bottas would be leaving Mercedes to team up with Guanyu Zhou and race for Alfa Romeo, essentially replacing another Finn, Kimi Raikkonen. He later completed his deal and joined Alfa Romeo.
