The sixth seed – Jannik Sinner takes on the world No. 29 Francisco Cerundolo in the round of 16 of the Vienna Open on Thursday.
The Italian tennis pro aims to reach his third quarterfinal on the trot after making it to the last 8 at the US Open and the semis of the Sofia Open. Jannik Sinner is eyeing his second title of the season after winning the Croatia Open in July. He still has a long way to go and will do well to not get ahead of himself which is very easy when one has that much talent.
The 21-year-old began his campaign in the Vienna Open with a solid win against Cristian Garin in the round of 32. Sinner was phenomenal with his serves and had a staggering win percentage of 92 on the first serve. The match eventually ended 6-3, 6-2 in favor of Sinner.
The Argentine tennis pro is one of the finest talents on the tour. He is slowly getting into his own with some fantastic results. Cerundolo came into the Vienna Open on the back of an exit in the round of 16 of the European Open. He lost to the 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem but not without giving a good account of himself.
In the opening encounter of the Vienna Open, Cerundolo got the better of Filip Misolic in straight sets. The 24-year-old was quite professional in his performance and didn’t give his opponent an inch. The match ended in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in favor of Cerundolo.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-1. Cerundolo advanced in their previous meeting at the Miami Masters after Sinner retired trailing 4-1.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
