“Wanna make a netflix doc?” Naomi Osaka announces Netflix documentary in style

Streaming giants Netflix have announced a new untitled documentary series on former World No.1 Naomi Osaka on Thursday.

The Japanese player will be the subject of a new docuseries whose title and release date has not yet been disclosed to the public. Netflix made the announcement via its Japanese twitter page, quickly attracting attention from tennis fans from around the globe.

The series is presented in association with Uninterrupted, an athlete-empowerment brand and will be produced by Film 45. Garrett Bradley, who won the US Documentary Directing Award at Sundance 2020 for her film, “Time,” will direct the docuseries which has Osaka as it’s subject.

The coming of age series follows the life of Osaka, who became the first Asian tennis player to reach the World No.1 rankings following her maiden Grand Slam win at the 2018 US Open, and a second in the 2019 Australian Open.

The documentary will mainly highlight the work that went into making the tennis player in her. It will give the public a sneak peek into the efforts and sufferings the player went through to achieve glory.

Osaka, on the other hand, was her usual self, as she jokingly posted a photo of herself all suited up and two others holding a mic and a camera shooting her, in twitter with a caption: “hey @uninterrupted wanna make a @netflix doc?”

Osaka, who emigrated to US as a child has however relinquished her American citizenship in accordance with Japanese laws and has chosen to represent her country of birth for the upcoming 2020 Olympics which will be held in Tokyo.
