Kevin Durant is widely known as one of the best players in the game of basketball right now – was his movie Thunderstruck a flop?
While his shooting, his huge wing span and his excellent jump are some of the attributes most associated with him, not many people would recall his acting as one of his best abilities as well – not many know that KD has acting experience as he starred in the 2012 movie Thunderstruck.
Like many other top NBA athletes in the present and in the past, KD also ventured into acting – however, his acting stint was no Michael Jordan in Space Jam as not many people tend to remember The 2012 movie Thunderstruck is an American sports comedy film starring Durant.
Directed by John Whitesell, the 2012 movie starred Kevin Durant as himself – as the plot followed a young boy who magically gets KD’s basketball ability, and the pair must now work a way out to return the powers.
With a runtime of 94 minutes, the movie also featured Taylor Gray, Brandon T. Jackson, Doc Shaw and Jim Belushi, and was distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Thunderstruck heavily tanked at the box office, and attracted some of the worst reviews we have ever seen in any sports comedy.
With a whopping budget of $7million spent to make the film, Thunderstruck could generate only a meagre $587,211 at the box office – making up only 1/14th of the total money spent.
When it came to critical reviews, Thunderstruck held an approval rating of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes and only managed to rack up a rating of 5.1 out of 10 on IMDb – a major disappointment for the then Oklahoma City Thunder man.
It would be fair to say that Thunderstruck was not anything like Kevin Durant’s basketball career, as since 2012, Durant has reached new heights in his career – winning two NBA Championships and two MVP awards.
