Nissan 300ZX was a series of Japanese sports vehicles part of the Z series. These were available between 1983 to 2000. The second-generation 300ZX vehicles had great technology and designs, but the sales were not great. Though it was an expensive vehicle, the craze was huge. The 1990 model was equipped with a naturally aspirated VG30DE V6 engine which included DOHC and 24-valve. Built around RWD, it featured both automatic and manual gearboxes. The ABS and Advanced ECU engine management paved the way for excellent performance. Nissan 300ZX’s hp and torque were not great unlike other models, but this delivered great speed. 

Features 

Equipped with comfort features, the Nissan 300zx second-generation vehicles had premium features like leather interior, bucket seats, premium audio system, cruise control, power steering, AC, and disc brakes. It featured sports tuned suspension and chassis. Some of the technologies were digital climate control system, turbo inter coolers, and multi link suspension. The vehicle was known for its incredible features and technology.

Innovative Designs 

Nissan 300ZX didn’t follow the pattern of boxy styling. The car had another body lines with wide stance. It was a wedge-shaped design with clean surfaces. On the front, the headlines were slanting. The curved beltline, thick rear, and flowing roofline were the other styling. In the rear, the horizontal taillights were placed. Inside the car, the dashboard was placed near the driver seat. It was more of aerodynamics and modern styling rather than the regular boxy designs.

It Was Launched to Challenge Its Rivals

The Nissan 300zx second-generation was built to compete with luxury muscle cars like Dodge, Porsche, and Chevrolet. With its unprecedented technology and designs, the vehicle gained cult status. It also won the Motor Trend Import Car of the Year in 1990. Another important reason to launch this car was to get away from the boxy styling. Nissan wanted to explore new designs as their target was to reach the global market.

A Comfortable Vehicle 

The 300ZX was a comfortable vehicle with luxury features like bucket seats, power steering, and premium audio systems. With the smooth engines, chassis, and soft suspension, the performance was enhanced. It was designed for trips and was suited for families. The vehicle also offered decent endurance with its engines and gearbox.

It Was Commercially Successful 

  • Several factors of Nissan 300ZX like modern designs, Twin-Turbo engines, and premium features helped increase the sales. The vehicle sold around 19,000 units and did great sales. In 1990, this model was priced around $28,000 USD to $36,000 USD. This Nissan car was not affordable by any means. Although it was expensive, it did good sales. The restored 300ZX cars are available in collector markets.
