It’s been almost a year since Emma Raducanu burst onto the scene with an emphatic record-shattering performance at US Open.
The Bromley-based girl progressed from the qualifiers and went on to win the US Open last year and that too without dropping a set. This was only her second Grand Slam campaign and the youngster showed no signs of stage fright.
Raducanu has been through a lot over the last ten months. With her jaw-dropping performance at Flushing Meadows last year, Raducanu won the title but the weight of expectations also joined in.
Fans began believing that she would go on an invincible run and win Grand Slams left, right, and center. However, that is not how it works in sports. There ought to be highs and lows. Raducanu saw the highs at the US Open last year and now she is dealing with a tough little phase in her young career where she has struggled in the last few tournaments to live up to the expectations. Raducanu had a disappointing campaign in Wimbledon where she crashed out in the second round.
However, the 19-year-old has taken the topsy-turvy nature of sports head on and has done exceedingly well to focus on the basics instead of paying undue attention to the negativity that is sometimes directed toward her.
She recently posted a video on her Instagram account where she was seen putting in the hard yards on the tennis court as well as in the gym ahead of her US Open title defense. Raducanu seems to be determined to put on a show once again in America. In the caption, she wrote: “from the beginning, step by step.”
The current British No. 1 carries herself quite well at all times. She also loves exploring new places around the world.
Raducanu was recently seen sporting a new look. Hair stylist John Clark shared a few pictures on social media after dying the tennis star’s hair. He had given Raducanu’s hair a lighter shade than what we are used to seeing.
In the Instagram post, Clarke wrote:
“When Emma Raducanu asks you to make her hair lighter you definitely have fun doing it. • • I used the John Frieda Salon’s #glowlights technique to lift her naturally very dark base to a multi tonal brunette with lighter areas around the face and where the sunshine would naturally make it shimmer.”
Raducanu’s fans will hope that the change in hair color will bring about a change in fortunes for the current world No. 10.
