An unfortunate incident happened after the doubles match between the teams of Linda Noskova and Kradecka and Venus and Serena Williams.
The Williams sisters bowed out of the women’s doubles event in the first round following a defeat against the duo from the Czech Republic. Hradecka and Noskova won the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
They will take on the team of Alexa Guarachi and Andreja Klepac in the second round on Saturday. After the match, the winning duo of Hradecka and Noskova were sending some signed balls into the crowd. A video has surfaced on the internet where Lucie Hradecka is seen hitting a ball into the crowd. As the camera panned to the stands, a young fan was spotted landing face-first into the cement stairs. It made for painful viewing and we hope the fan isn’t hurt too badly.
Rafael Nadal’s freakish injury at the Arthur Ashe Stadium
We have seen Rafael Nadal suffer a freakish injury during the fourth set of his second-round match against Fabio Fognini at the same stadium.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal hit a backhand but as he stretched to complete the shot, the racquet bounced off the court to hit him on the bridge of the nose. He fell down on his back at the sideline and his nose was busted open.
The southpaw resumed playing after receiving medical attention. He wore a tape on his nose and went on to win the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1. He will face Richard Gasquet in the third round on Sunday.
