Gael Monfils entered the quarterfinals of the Rotterdam Open with win over countrymate Gilles Simons

Rotterdam Open defending champion Gael Monfils joked with TV presenter Jan Koojiman and even convinced him to try the ice bath.

Monfils and Koojiman were at the Rotterdam Ahoy – a convention centre and multi-purpose arena –  where the matches are being held, when the latter asked Monfils to take him on a tour inside.

“I think a lot of people are watching the tournament and are a little curious to know what is happening behind the scenes.

“So, I would like to ask you, could you show us around a little bit, because you are a former winner, you must know where to go,” Koojiman asked Monfils.

To which Monfils smilingly replied,

“Exactly, so have a walk with me. Let’s go.”

The two of them were having some fun when a curious Koojiman asked Monfils if it was true that the arena had an ice bath.

In a bid to solve Koojiman’s doubts Monfils took him to the ice bath and asked him to try it out.

Koojiman tried going in but found it to be extremely cold and came out immediately.

Seeing this Monfils jokingly said,

“I stayed there for ten minutes but you can’t even stay for ten seconds.”

Koojiman replied by saying that it was enough and that he is getting out, which made Monfils cry out in laughter.

Meanwhile, defending champion Monfils eased into the quarterfinals following a comfortable 6-4, 6-1 win over fellow countryman Gilles Simon in the Round of 16.

Third seed Monfils will next face Britain’s Dan Evans on Saturday to book a place in the semi-finals.
