Serbian star Novak Djokovic picked up another win in the Australian Open, after defeating Dominic Thiem in the 2020 final.
The 32-year-old seemed destined to lose this final and break his streak of being perfect in them.
Thiem was leading the match two sets to one and had a glorious chance of wrapping up the fourth set and win his first Grand Slam.
However, Djokovic fought back from some physical problems too and won the final two sets to win the crown.
Djokovic was magnanimous in defeat and claimed that Thiem would win a Grand Slam title soon, but this just wasn’t his day.
The Djoker celebrated wildly after the match but there were more such moments outside the Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic shared a clipping of some Serbian fans celebrating traditionally with a Kolo dance. The fans were in a boisterous mood.
Many on Twitter were pleased seeing the celebrations and here are some of their reactions:
This was Djokovic’s 17th Grand Slam of his career and he is now just three behind Roger Federer, who holds the record with 20.
He has been a runner-up in a Grand Slam nine times but will be one of the favourites to win the French Open next.
Of course, Rafael Nadal will be a thorn in his side as the Spaniard is brilliant at Roland Garros. Djokovic also has just one French Open title and would be looking to change that later in the year.
It will also be interesting to see how Roger Federer does in the coming months. Wimbledon has been his stomping ground for almost a decade but a charged up Nola could change things soon.
