Watch: Paul Pierce gives his take on Kevin Durant-Jaylen Brown trade rumours

Published by

Former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce offers his opinions on whether Boston should trade players, most notably Jaylen Brown, to team Kevin Durant with Jayson Tatum.

In a historic trade nine years ago, the Celtics shipped Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn in exchange for a package of draft selections, two of which became Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The NBA landscape may be drastically altered as a result of a new transaction that the two parties are said to have explored. Shams Charania of The Athletic claims that Boston offered the Nets Brown, Derrick White, and a first-round pick in exchange for Kevin Durant, the former NBA MVP and ten-time All-Star.

At a recent event, Pierce was approached by reporters who understandably wanted to know his opinion on the speculations surrounding KD and the Celtics’ alleged offer to send Jaylen Brown to the Brooklyn Nets in a mega-trade. Pierce firmly said that Boston wouldn’t agree to such a transaction, actually laughing off the issue (via Jared Schwartz of the New York Post):

“Are the Celtics in question?  They won’t do that”, Pierce assured reporters. ” They won’t carry out it. It won’t happen like that. They are not required to take any action.”

Paul Pierce is either incredibly certain of himself or he has firsthand knowledge of the Celtics’ offseason plans. The 10-time All-Star seemed to be assured that Boston won’t make any meaningful summer changes in his eyes.

Jayson Tatum responds to the alleged Kevin Durant offer from the Celtics

Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum recently revealed his team’s ties to Kevin Durant and declared his appreciation for their present lineup. Tatum and Pierce seem to be on the same page in this situation, which may indicate that Pierce’s recent truth bomb was in fact accurate.

The C’s have already added a great scorer/playmaker in Malcolm Brogdon through trade and free agency forward Danilo Gallinari to a team that reached the 2022 NBA Finals this season. The Celtics now have more playing depth and players who can contribute much-needed scoring off the bench thanks to both additions.

The Celtics would be best served to start the 2022–23 season with their current lineup and gauge how well they perform. When the squad was so close to winning a championship just a month ago, there is no reason to make a significant roster change.
