Watford Opinion: Why the Hornets must take a punt on Remi Oudin?
According to a report from the Sun, Watford’s £7million bid for Stade de Reims attacker Remi Oudin has been rejected. The Reims attacker dubbed the “next Robin van Persie” is also on the radar of Newcastle United.
The French club are seeking at least £10 million for Remi Oudin, who scored 10 goals in Ligue 1 this season as Reims finished ninth in the table. The report claims Watford and Newcastle face opposition from Nice and Fiorentina for the Frenchman this summer.
Considering the impact Oudin has had this past season and the interest in him, Watford must act swiftly and meet Reims’ £10 million valuation of their academy star.
The Hornets will definitely take a dip in the transfer market to strengthen their squad for the next season. Following a good start, they once looked confident of achieving a top-half finish but defeats in the last three games of the campaign saw Javi Gracia’s men finish 13th on the table.
Gracia’s aim certainly will be to finish in the top 10 next season and for that to happen, he needs to bring in at least a couple of forwards. Watford already have the likes of Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu up front, while Andre Gray is also a useful back-up. Roberto Pereyra and Will Hughes were good in the 2018/19, but the addition of Remi Oudin can certainly take the Hornets to next level.
A technically-gifted and tactically versatile player, Oudin can play anywhere across the front-line. A tall and fast individual, the 22-year-old relies heavily on his movements and looks to exploit even smallest of spaces given by the opposition. He also boasts good pace and knows how to find the back of the net consistently.
The Frenchman has the perfect blend of pace and power to succeed in the Premier League. Furthermore, the young attacker is blessed with technical quality, meaning he can link-up with his teammates in the final third.

The addition of Oudin would undoubtedly bolster Javi Gracia’s attacking options at Vicarage Road. He will bring creativity, width and a touch of flair and will add a lot of goals to the Hornets frontline. And at the age of 22, he could be a smart long-term investment.
Verdict
While Oudin is bursting with potential, his lack of experience in the Premier League could be a problem for Watford. Nevertheless, Gracia shouldn’t hesitate to take a punt on the talented Frenchman.
