Barcelona vs Liverpool Ratings: Liverpool Player Ratings + Fans’ Reaction
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were outclassed by a Barcelona side led by the most iconic footballing talent of this generation – Lionel Messi. The Argentine magician was at his creative best and the Reds found it very difficult to deal with his mazy runs into the box.
The fixture ended 3-0 in the Catalan side’s favour with Luis Suarez getting the opening and Messi scoring the next two. The 3rd Barca goal was a sensational free-kick from almost 30 yards out that the Argentine made look easy. Liverpool must now hope to overturn a 3-goal deficit when Barcelona visit Anfield in a week’s time.
Here are the Liverpool Player Ratings:
Allison Becker: 7
Was assured whenever the ball was played into the Liverpool box but could’ve done better with Barca’s 2nd goal.
Joe Gomez 5
The youngster was tasked with defending against Lionel Messi on his return and he didn’t do too badly on occasion.
Virgil Van Dijk 6
The Dutchman wasn’t quite himself as he got caught on the ball a couple of times but was assured in defence.
Joel Matip 6
He did well under pressure at times and couldn’t really have done much about the Barcelona opener either.
Andy Robertson 6
Showed good pace down the flank in the first half but was kept a lot quieter by the Catalan defence in the 2nd period
James Milner 6
Wasted a couple of golden opportunities to score when the game was still within reach but couldn’t beat the keeper.
Fabinho 7
Did well in the centre of midfield by linking up well with the wide players and he showed some sharp turns and flicks too.
Georginio Wijnaldum 5
The midfielder was poor for most of the tie and he seemed to leave miles of space for the opposition to run into.
Naby Keita 4
Didn’t have more than a whiff of this tie as he was taken off in the first period and replaced by Jordan Henderson.
Sadio Mane 5
The pacy winger didn’t have a good night at all as absolutely nothing seemed to be going his way, despite getting chances.

Mohamed Salah 6
Like his teammate on the opposite flank, Salah was wasteful at times but tested the Barcelona keeper well too.
