According to Burnley Express, Dwight McNeil has signed a new deal with Burnley that will run until 2024. The Englishman, who has become a regular under Sean Dyche, was the subject of interest from Leicester City (source – Leicester Mercury).
Born in Rochdale, England, McNeil was released from Manchester United’s youth academy at the age of 14. He joined the academy of Burnley in 2014 and four years later, made his senior bow. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength and is one of the best young talents in the country.
The 20-year-old has been a regular member of England’s U20 and U21 squads and has also established himself as a key figure for the Clarets in the last two seasons. Despite his tender age, he has already made 72 appearances for the club and could be seen as a future prospect. He has scored 5 goals and assisted another 12 for them so far (source – Transfermarkt).
McNeil’s contract comes after the renewals of key players like captain Ben Mee and Ashley Westwood. The club is doing well to secure the futures of their key players and potentially pricing away clubs from a transfer approach.
Ever since he joined the youth setup, the winger has gone from strength to strength. The fact that he played all of Burnley’s 38 league games last season shows how far he has come along. He is one of Sean Dyche’s most trusted players with the hard work he puts in every game.
