Why West Bromwich Albion must go all out to sign Kemar Roofe

According to a report by Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe this summer. The Baggies endured a dreadful season the last time out as they were unable to secure their spot in the Premier League.

The club eventually got relegated and now, they must ply their trade in the Championship the next season. However, West Brom must work hard towards getting back to the English top-flight.

To do that, the ongoing transfer window will be crucial for them and if they sign a player like Roofe, he will certainly help them. After all, the player was the Whites’ top goalscorer last season as he ended the campaign with 14 goals in 39 matches.

Interestingly enough, Roofe embarked on his career with the Baggies and now, he could be set for a reunion with his boyhood club. He is a seasoned Championship striker with a good amount of potential and West Brom should definitely make a move for him this summer.

The 25-year-old rapidly progressed through the Baggies’ academy ranks and eventually joined Oxford in 2015. Prior to that, he had served a few loan spells, meaning he is experienced and skilled enough to make a difference. After spending a year with Oxford, however, Roofe joined Leeds in 2016.

He initially failed to be convincing enough but over the course of the last season, he seemed like a different player. In fact, the versatile attacker was one of their best players and he essayed a key role in keeping them up in the second-tier competition.

The report further states that Baggies could face competition from Sheffield United, who are also interested in signing the player. He has two years left on his current contract with Leeds, meaning this is the right time to cash in on him. But as far as Leeds are concerned, it might be risky to sell him before finding a solid replacement.

After all, he chipped in with some key goals and assists for the Championship outfit last season. That said, as far as West Brom are concerned, they could truly utilize a player like Roofe.
