Why signing Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool could be great business for West Bromwich Albion
Sheyo Ojo is one of the seven players Liverpool are open to selling for the right price ahead of the next season. According to Sky Sports, the latest developments at Anfield have alerted a host of Championship sides, including West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest, both of whom are keen on landing Ojo.
The Baggies were relegated from the Premier League last season after finishing in the bottom of the table. Middlesbrough and Reading are also monitoring the situation with the wide man’s future in Merseyside looking bleak despite his immense potential. The 21-year-old is highly rated by the Reds and has a £15million asking price.
Signed from MK Dons at the age of 14, Ojo has already enjoyed loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Wolves and Fulham. Last season, the 21-year-old started 18 times for the Cottagers and made 4 substitute appearances. Playing over 1400 minutes, Ojo scored four goals, assists twice and recorded 2.2 shots per goal with an 83.1% pass success rate, according to WhoScored.
Capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, Ojo is a threat from set-pieces and long shots. Over the last three seasons, the pacy youngster has made 50 Championship appearances.
New West Brom manager Darren Moore must add firepower to his attacking options at the Hawthorns ahead of next season. The Baggies have lost James McClean to Stoke City, thus providing Ojo with the first-team opportunity he desperately needs.
Ojo has already used his blistering pace to great effect in the pre-season, netting against Tranmere Rovers. However, the return of first-team players after their World Cup duties could limit his playing time for the Reds in the new season. To that end, West Brom will be looking for an immediate return to the top-flight and Ojo could just be the man for the job.
There is no denying Ojo’s massive potential. The left-footed winger scored 4 goals in 22 games and when compared to his predecessor, McClean only chipped in with a single goal in 30 appearances last season. The Hemel Hempstead-born player already has Championship experience and will be vital as West Brom prepare to battle it out for direct promotion.

Ojo’s playing style would help the Baggies improve their attacking potency. The 21-year-old will provide Moore with a completely different dimension, particularly when one takes a look at the options he currently has at his disposal. Hence, Ojo could go on to become an elite player for West Brom.
